MICHAEL PHELPS – EST. $65 MILLION
Not only does the former competitive swimmer get credit for winning the most Olympic god medals during his career, but he also currently holds the world record for men’s 400-meter individual medley—among others. So far, he has set 39 world records, the most in history. Because of his success, Michael enjoys one of the most profitable post-Olympic careers in American history. He has dozens of sponsors and often appears in commercials and global advertisements.
Needless to say, he’s an icon even among fellow athletes. Although he announced his retirement back in August of 2016, his legacy has certainly changed the sport forever. So, what keeps Michael busy? He has plenty of philanthropic causes to support. He once used his $1 million bonus from Speedo to establish the Michael Phelps Foundation, and most recently, he joined Medibio—a company that focuses on diagnosing mental health disorders.
